STEAMING HOT AND SUPER FLUFFY PILAU RICE EVERY TIME
SERVINGS: 2 COOK TIME: 10 minutes approx RESTING TIME 5-10 MINUTES
This recipe for Restaurant style Pilau Rice is our go to Rice for Curries. Simple and made in minutes from scratch and will impress your friends and family every time! This recipe uses the Absorption method of cooking rice. This means all the water used will be absorbed by the grains in the cooking process.
1 CUP BASMATI RICE
1 1/2 CUP STILL WATER (KEEP A LITTLE EXTRA INCASE)
1/2 TSP SALT
1/2 TSP TURMERIC POWDER
1/2 TSP CUMIN SEEDS (OPTIONAL)
2 TBSP COOKING OIL (VEG, CORN, SUNFLOWER)
1.heat a medium sized sauce pan and line the base with the oil
2.add the rice (no need to soak but you can rinse once)
3.coat all the grains in the warm oil
4.when the grains turn from translucent to white, add the water
TIP: Absorption Method. 1 1/2 RULE: 1 1/2 cups of water for 1 cup of rice. The water should be approx 1/2 a finger tip above the rice. As in the video.
5.now add the salt, turmeric powder and the cumin seeds and stir well
6.bring to a boil and then lower to a simmer and put the lid on
7.allow to cook for approx 7-10 minutes until all the water is fully absorbed into the rice grains.
TIP: Check on the pan after 5 mins incase you need to top up the water but usually you wont need to :) once the rice is cooked it will be slightly al- dente
10.now turn the heat off and replace the lid for 5-10 minutes and let the rice steam before serving up
